The
Brief

Ebbsfleet Development Corporation (EDC) is leading the creation of a new city in North Kent: Ebbsfleet Garden City.

Their vision is to build a sustainable, inclusive and connected place to live and work, with community, wellbeing and environmental design at its core.

They originally approached us with a brief for a single 10-minute documentary. After consultation, we advised that a series of shorter, thematic films would be more effective in engaging audiences and reflecting the breadth of development taking place. Short-form content would allow each film to focus on one aspect of the city, while also being digestible, engaging and tailored for social media.

The Production

We have been working with EDC as filmmakers-in-residence for over three years, documenting Ebbsfleet’s story as the city takes shape.

Filming throughout the year, we capture key milestones, local events and everyday moments that reflect the area’s growth and evolving identity.

Rather than a single long film, we created a series of thematic documentaries built around EDC’s core priorities: environment, wellbeing, & community. Our approach focused on uncovering authentic stories that made the bigger picture relatable and human. From residents launching community events with micro-grants to individuals retraining for new careers, the films highlighted Ebbsfleet’s transformation through the eyes of those shaping it. Each release was supported with tailored social content to help EDC expand reach and engagement.

The
Outcome

Year 1: Four core documentaries released, each built around a theme and distributed across EDC’s public channels

Year 2: Continued filming with a focus on hyperlocal stories and growing infrastructure, with new edits shared widely

Year 3: Currently in production, deepening the narrative with more community voices and further documenting physical and social change.

The filmmaker-in-residence model has become a key part of EDC’s communications strategy, helping them showcase progress, share milestones and build trust with local residents while presenting an authentic vision of Ebbsfleet Garden City to the wider public.
